Not a Great Sweater in a Down Pour

Whenever I put on an outfit that makes me feel extra special I think to myself, "I am going to DRAW this!"  It's the truth.  I think my fashion and art have found a happy place together and as long as that great feeling pops up I'm going to keep celebrating it.

Also as a reminder for anyone new or return that I'm on Twitter, Facebook and Networked Blogs if anyone would like an alternative way to follow this blog.

Pen Woes and a Pretty Pink Shirt

I wanted to draw this outfit so much today but my patience just wasn't there.  I got so fed up with my Micron pen that I pushed down the tip.  I'm through with those pens for a little while, the way the nibs wear down agitate me.  I need a good fast drying permanent pen that comes in at least two nib sizes for a heavy handed artist.  I was wondering if ball points come in permanent ink?  Anyway this is the outfit I wore today.  I liked the way the necklace and shirt complement each other.  I finally had some time this evening to draw them properly.

Finding the Love in Fashion

Today started out as a bad hair day gone stupid.  Have you ever had one of those days that feel like everything you are wearing is uncomfortable?  Now I know it wasn't the clothes. I was probably feeling anxious about the three girls and I getting our flu shots plus I chose the most basic collection of items.

I finally changed after only a short time of wearing the outfit.  To help me regain my appreciation for the pieces I put them in my art space and vowed to add them to my fashion memoir sketchbook.  I've learned that by drawing objects I can regain a peaceful connection on a level that makes me happy.  Now I wonder if drawing my hair would get me through on a bad hair day?

The true joy of being an artist.

My Fish Must Think I'm Crazy

For some reason I've been going to sleep right after the girls go to bed for the last two nights.  Tonight I rolled over and woke up at quarter of midnight, wide awake and thinking.  Since I couldn't sleep I decided to draw up a fashion memoir page.  I stopped working on them because I ran out of interesting clothes to draw during the summer season.  With the cooler air the last few days I'd gone through my closet and switched into autumn mode.

I know you're asking what about the fish in the subject line.  They are my guppies in the art room.  They sleep on the bottom of the tank.  I know this because they looked at me as if I was out of my mind coming in here at that hour.  Now that my creative urges have been satisfied I can drift back off to sleep.  Good night, again.

I almost forgot to share this little addition to my fashion memoir.  I haven't added much to it lately but I haven't dropped the project.  It's a lovely necklace I like the way it graces the paper and haven't determined if I plan on adding more jewelry or enjoying the starkness of the page.

Color Interaction Triggers

Have you ever had one of those weeks when it seems like nothing is going right and then someone comes along and says the right thing to make it all better?  My van's been in the shop since last week and it's given me a case of the ass drag syndrome.  Our four year old inspired me with her sweet loving words today.  Enough so that I drew today including this outfit I wore.

Then after looking at the outfit in the picture it made me wonder.  Did the color trigger an emotion in my daughter that increased her desire to say loving things?  How do the colors we wear affect the people we interact with?  Granted my van isn't repaired and I'm still house bound but at least I get to spend it with someone who loves me a lot.  Maybe I'll even wear red again.

Classic Beauty

The style of this blouse reminds me of something Marilyn Monroe would wear it's flattering and feminine.  The geometric patterns help to make it more grounded.  A shirt with the brains and the looks.  Everything else was added based on the top.

Strange Found a Home

This shirt is strange with the way the material went together it has a different pattern on each side.  I wonder if it was done on purpose?  I wasn't going to buy the shirt for that reason but there was something about it that appealed to me.  Once I tried it on and felt how comfortable it was I had to have it.  Drawing the pattern was very difficult to replicate but I believe I pulled it off fairly well.

Thrift Finds

07-11-2012 Today's outfit is a collection of thrift finds with lots of accessories in shades of green and blue green.  I've put off drawing this dress because the pattern seemed daunting.  I must have been worried about it to a point that I did all the accessories and built up confidence then tackled the dress.

Celebrate Color as a Pick Me Up

I've had a couple blah fashion days.  Today I decided to pull myself out of the funk with color.  The deep blue jeans are the darkest I own and the yellow shirt has got to be one of the brightest.  The shoes and accessories were thrown in to give me a nice trinity of color.

Drawing of a Sunday Jaunt

This is Sheila's outfit for July 8th you can see her wearing it at Ephemera.  Working from emailed photos and using her comments I was able to create this page celebrating her fun fashion combination.  My favorites:  'spore.' for humor, the scarf for sentiment and that beautiful leaf necklace.

Peace, Hope and Serenity

Earlier as I was drawing this I thought about how much I enjoy working in this fashion sketchbook.  I have loved drawing clothes, shoes, jewelry etc but let's face it I don't have an unlimited supply of these items at some point my wardrobe is going to be completed.  How would I be able to continue doing what I love?

Other people's stuff.  How would it be to draw other people's outfits and accessories?  When I draw my clothes I add my personal thoughts.  If I were to draw their items would I include their comments or just draw the objects?  Would the pages have the same impact without those insights?  How would I even go about doing such a thing?   Would anyone even want drawings like this?  I don't know.  For now I'll enjoy the artistic ride, muse along the way and see where it takes me.

Independence Day

I hope everyone had a wonderful and festive fourth of July.  I went with blue and green instead of the standard red, white and blue garb for the holiday.  It was as if I wasn't  being supportive of my country and of course I am so I added a date banner that reflected how I felt on the inside.

Copper Jewelry

Today's fashion drawing includes a copper necklace from the 60's I picked up at a thrift shop and a pair of earrings I made myself.  I never really considered other metals besides gold and silver before.  Copper has a radiance to it that is quite lovely.  I feel these accesories make this outfit come alive.

Great Start to a New Month

I'm posting pretty late tonight because we finally got to go to a powered up town today.  It was a super great time with my daughters.  They all love dressing up and shopping almost as much as I do. When our feet were tired and shopping was done we had a Taco Bell lunch. My husband completed the evening for us by getting pizza dinner for the girls and my favorite antipasto salad for me.

I rescanned some of the other fashion skecthbook pages because when I draw them I snap a quick cell phone picture and they're usually not the best lighting.  The scans really bring out the most accurate colors.

 Have a good night.

Going to Town

Before I moved to the country the thought of uttering the statement, "We're going to town." seemed absurd.  Now that we live so far removed from civilazation it's exciting to do it.  We're getting our 'shop' on and these are my going to town clothes for today.

Additional Edit: Due to the heavy thunderstorms that came through last night all of the power was out.  No shopping for us today.  I was really in a thrift hopping mood too.  Bummer

Shorts Win The Day

It's nice to put on a piece of clothing and have it fit well.  That's the feeling I experienced today when I put on these shorts they were just perfect.  I really like the Gloria Vanderbilt shorts but I'm not crazy about their pants.

I've found clothing to be addictive and fun to draw and with its ease of being right under my nose there is no need to go hunting for a subject.  The journaling part of it kind of started as an after thought but now as I'm drawing them I think of interesting things that I want to get down about each piece.

Whistle While You Work

Nothing too fancy today.  Some days we just need to get down and dirty, today was that day for me.  Luckily I also believe if hard work has to be done that time off is madatory.  After a morning of deep cleaning the house I treated myself to an hour of sunshine time.  When I draw these I never worry abut scale.  I have fun making the most important piece the biggest on the page.  By size comparison I can tell that leasure time ruled, cleaning clothes were tiny as can be.

Something in Red

This outfit didn't stay on long today.  By the afternoon it was off and I was into a bathing suit sitting in the sunshine drenched yard drawing about it.  With the next drawing I want to slow down some so that what I'm writing is more clear to read.

A Little Bit Comfort

It's been exciting looking forward to getting what I'm wearing down on paper.  It wasn't the plan to do this daily but it is so addictive it's hard to resist.  What a great way to celebrate the outfits I love.  This was a little dressed up and casual at the same time.  I love wearing clothes that couple comfort with a good look.
