Rat Love Art Mixed Media Abstract Painting

This mixed media rat trio painting is a celebration of my love for those adorable fuzz balls.  It was a gorgeous day, I enjoyed creating this outside while the girls were playing with their baby dolls on the swing.  Made with acrylic paints, oil pastels, water soluble crayons and colored pencils it's bright and they appear to pop off the canvas.  I photographed it on the deck when I was finished and used my feet to give you an idea of the scale.

Drawing Lines Swirls and Movement

I was really relaxed and had fun creating this while the girls played in the back yard.  It took quite a bit of time but the overall finished piece is really warm and inviting.  This was created in my art journal however I could easily see this being hung on the wall.  It conjures an emotion that I really like.

Abstract Watercolor Painting

Brighter in real life than in this scan this watercolor and India ink painting is slightly larger than A4.  I didn't know what to name it I thought of all kinds of things but really it was a practice in emotion and movement.  I signed it just so we all would know which way is up in ten years.  Would that be best to continue doing in the future or is abstract more fun left to the viewers choice of positioning?

Bubble Cats Series

This is a really fun way to make a cat silhouette with colorful bubbles dancing across them.

Azalea Abstracted Three Card Series

Card 1

These three cards were all created in an abstracted style from a picture of an azalea flower.

The top and right are closeups from within the flower.  The bottom is a very close view of an individual petals details.

Cat in a Box

Cat in a Box is an art trading card depicting a cats balance and security when comfortably snuggled into a box resting.  This painting was created with primary and pastel colors combined to give it a warm/cool - hot/cold feeling.

Cat in a Bathtub

This original art trading card makes me think of a cat standing in a bathtub.  It's circled with pastel bubbles all around the cat.  I tried to make the brush strokes inside the bubbles maintain the swirls so that they felt round and light.

Cat Sitting in the Window

This art trading card has a cat sitting in a window with the sun shining through in a prismatic rainbow of primary and secondary colors that lend this piece a great deal of depth.

Cat Head in Front of the TV!

What cat owner hasn't experienced the cat bobbing it's head in front of the television for one reason or another?  This painting was created with basic primary colors and simple shapes.

Yellow Rose

I created Yellow Rose to round off the Abstracted Flowers collection I created. This is the fourth and final card.

It is a bit more simplified then the last three. Instead of using exact colors from the area I was enlarging I used the lightest colors of the rose and inserted them into the area that I painted. I think it gave it a more stark look.

Anna Marie's Peach Hibiscus

This is an abstracted painting of Anna Marie's Peach Hibiscus* my third admission to May 2010 Painting Project: Abstracted Flower.

This has become my third in a series of abstracted flowers. She has beautiful flowers and this Peach Double Hibiscus is inspired from that garden. I like this painting because it has a warm sunny feeling to it. I like the way it flows around the card. Flowers with many petals are the most fun to paint in this style.

Pond Lilly

Pond Lilly was my second admission to May 2010 Painting Project: Abstracted Flower. I submitted it as the painting on the left, this angle gives it more of a dramatic effect.

I enjoyed painting my first abstracted flower Peony Rose so much that I wanted to try it again. This flower is a little more colorful and I brought some details from the background pond and lilly pads into it. These sastracted flowers are very different from the planned paintings I've done in the past because its simplicity makes it a mystery. I don't really know what I'm going to have until the final outcome. It's exciting.

Peony Rose

This is an abstracted flower painting of a Peony Rose and was my first admission to May 2010 Painting Project: Abstracted Flower. It is also the first painting in this style that I have created.

The peony rose was chosen for its vibrant pink and deep shadowed crevices. I was reluctant because I've never painted in abstracted form. After it was completed I stepped back and saw why so many people appreciate abstract art.

You can make the forms into anything with a little imagination.  Every person that has seen this painting has commented on seeing something different in the images.
