I refused to let my anxiety of Hurricane Sandy get the best of me tonight. I had an idea for this canvas when I created it to put a surfer of some sort on it. I've always admired surfers, skaters and bmx bikers their gross motor skills coupled with their creative equipment use stole my heart years ago. Maybe it was Gleaming the Cube that started it all? This girl is brave and ready to face the storm. I created her with ripped paper, gesso, black pen, alcohol ink, oil pastels, water soluble crayons, watercolor markers, permanent markers, water color paints, shimmer paints and white pen.
Quick Fixes before the hurricane comes:
1. Eat all the good meat and ice cream
2. Collect water from the well in containers that you would otherwise never drink from
3. Don't buy perishable foods refer to #1
4. DO buy candy, candy, candy oh yeah and chips and soda
5. Charge EVERYTHING even if you're not going to use it (laptops are useless without internet)
6. Buy batteries then argue with your children that you NEED to keep them and you're NOT going to put them in their annoying toy
7. Gas up the car so you have extra gas for the generator just to have your husband say he can't siphon it out
8. Make slow motion videos with your cell phone of the storm as it makes landfall
9. Email "oh shit" images of what 100 mph winds look like (cheeks wiggle and clothing whips)
10. Don't bother to clean the floor husband goes in and out every 15 minutes making kids wonder why they can't go outside too forcing you to teach them a wiggle dance involving "bang bang bangady bang bang"
*Be safe and enjoy the excuse to stay home and bum out*

Great piece of art! I too am on the East Coast and I'm feeling a bit concerned about Miss Sandy!
Ah yes...Frankenstorm! I think that, unless one is living on a coastline, we'll be ok. I'm in New York City, and right now glad I'm not in a high rise with lots of windows. Good luck, and love your journal page.
Art is a creative way to deal with your concerns and fears. I hope the storm is not as bad as they are predicting and that you will be prepared and safe. I guess if you don't have power, you won't be able to clean house or do laundry so.....relax and paint! Take care.
Great texture and pattern all over this. I hope the hurricane passes by without causing damage or harm.
Great page, Mary. Her face is so full of expression, it's really effective paired with her hand. Hope it's not too stormy there :)
Such a cute surfer girl and in my favourite colours too. I hope the hurricane passes...stay safe. :)
Oh she is absolutely gorgeous and determined too ! I am sure the days ahead will be more blessed for you :)

Mary I really love this piece! And I loved the movie Gleaming the Cube... oooo Christian Slater lol. Just a quick note to say, stay safe, and dry. I'll be thinking of you and all the east coasters, and sending good karma your way!

Those colors are so fun! Our preparations mostly consisted of storing some drinking water and staring at the map to work out three or four different routes to the birth center, just in case.
