Tropical Watercolor Painting Red and Green Macaw

04-11-2013 I enjoyed researching this red and green macaw for my watercolor painting.  It was so easy to get whisked away to tropical settings with bright colorful animal life.  Most of our backyard birds here are brown and black with the occasion cardinal, gold finch or blue jay.  Imagine my surprise if I were to see a neon green or a triple colored bird like this at our feeder!

  1. Beautiful macaw...it would be exciting... I'm not much for caged birds so flying free would be very happy for me to see!!

  3. Beautiful colours. We get Lorikeets and cockatoos in our garden in Brisbane. I emigrated here from the UK just over a year ago it was like walking into a tropical paradise, they are a pleasure to see but do make an awful squawking noise!!

  10. We have these gorgeous Sulpher crested cockatoos and Rainbow Lorikeets which come and visit the seed pods on one of our trees and the whole tree becomes a mass of colour... and this reminds me of what it looks like... just perfect...xx

  11. Gorgeous colors! We too only have pretty drab colored birds in my area other than the occasional cardinal. I did see a lovely robin sitting on the fence post at my boyfriend's house but he flew away before I could get my camera out.

  17. I still get a thrill from seeing flocks of lorikeets, cockatoos, and rosellas flying over after nearly four years in Australia. There's something fabulous about brightly coloured birds and you've captured this one beautifully.
